The Superintendent and BOE held a regular meeting and work session on December 12, 2023. The agenda included the following discussion items:
Banning 23 more books (aka, faking concern about sex in the library)
Pretending to consider Jenny Storino’s appeal to reinstate Earl to the MHS library
Sending the hastily written, poorly thought out Book Banning Directive off into the sunset, where it belonged all along
Budget Updates
Strategic Planning Discussion
Fundraisers
Sportsball Communications Tool
Camera and Access Control Installation
Security Cameras
Renovation Projects
Metal Roof Repairs
Brick Wall Repair (unfortunately this does not refer to improvements to MCS BOE’s cognitive flexibility)
Field Trips
The public comments last night were poignant. A student spoke up in opposition to the banning of her favorite book, Perks of Being a Wallflower. Kayla Sargent spoke up for LGBT parents, students, teachers, and staff. A grandmother told the crowd “everything would be okay” if they just switched out a few books. Courtney Bellmann challenged the board with a reading from The Color Purple. Audio of each statement can be found here.
We are including audio of Grant Rivera’s disappointing statements in support of the banning of the titles listed below. Have a listen if you like.
In Solidarity, Dear Readers. As always, we encourage you to read the books for yourselves before you buy into their removal, and pray for Grant’s quick release:
